WHATCHOO LISTENING TO THIS WEEK?

Our picks for the week of October 20, 2024:

WHATCHOO LISTENING IS REPLACED WITH WHATCHOO WATCHING THIS WEEK!

Sweet Mother Of Laszlo! The 6th and final season of What We Do In The Shadows comes out this week! It’s bittersweet!

BATTT!!!

Our picks for the week of October 6, 2024:

FAVORITE TUNES: KING OF OKLAHOMA, RUNNING WITH OUR EYES CLOSED

I’m traveling this week and wanted an experience to plug into on the plane and unplug from anything going on around me. Love ’em or leave ’em, live albums aren’t for everyone, but this new release should be. A follow-up killer set from a killer writer and performer, plus those classic Sadler tones and licks!

Our picks for the week of July 28, 2024:

FAVORITE TUNES: CANDLELIT, RADIO SILENCE

Got to see these guys a couple of time before Scott’s passing. Passion and energy bled off the stage both times. A documentary is in the works and I’ve submitted some personal footage for the project. I’ve been playing these 5 songs a lot since scouring hard drives for the video. I sent in an epic performance of Candlelit that I hope makes it in.

FAVORITE TUNES: BACK IN MY BODY, FALLINGWATER, LIGHT ON, ON + OFF, RETROGRADE, ALASKA

It’s hard not to list them all. IMO, this is one of the best albums of the last decade. Pharrell for the Lifetime Achievement W.

FAVORITE TUNES: ACCIDENTAL MAN, LOUISVILLE, SELL THE LIE, I AM A LEAVER

A Top 10 all-time band for me. Alex Dezen is one of the best lyricists to ever do it. David Chernis plays the perfect part, every time, on every song. It’s Air Stereo this week, but every Damnwells album is always in the mix. Can’t wait for the new album this Fall! First few songs are killers!

Our picks for the week of July 21, 2024:

More difficult than it was naming our two girls is naming my Desert Island album, but today, Dulcinea is still it. I may as well just pin this selection to the top of the page. The most criminally underrated band of all time released Dulcinea in 1994 and IMO, quintessentially showcases everything that makes them so deserving of that title.

Released in 1985 (I was nine), I’ll never forget hearing Your Love and breaking down in my head who Josie probably was. This album is loaded with great songs. Everytime You Cry and Say It Isn’t So are two rippers that I put on Repeat. I’ve been playing these tunes on guitar a lot lately so Play Deep is in heavy rotation right now. #80sreverb

COMPARISON: CROWDED HOUSE MEETS AUGUSTANA

FAVORITE TUNES: GET OVER YOU, UH-HUH, SOBER UP

I caught VERYGENTLY earlier this year opening for Augustana in Salt Lake. I dig great harmonies and well-written songs and these three dudes excel at both.

“Uh-Huh” is a clever portrayal of a breakup unfolding over the course of the song with the two sides facing the fate of their relationship, asking questions and receiving the bitter, simple, inevitable, “uh-huh” as the answer.

I love the visual of a lost soul pouring his heart out to anyone who will listen, as is the case on “Sir, This Is A Wendy’s”. On this track, that anyone is a Wendy’s worker who’s just there to take another mundane order on another mundane day.

…and because these guys just labeled their new EP, “Dumbass Mode”, I now have this epic image in my head when I listen to it:

8/1/24 Update: Been peeling back the layers a bit on these guys and just discovered Tristan Bushman‘s solo work. Damn. These dudes are talented. No joke, I just played this song at least a dozen times in a row:
