Celebrating her 50th birthday, my wife and I just returned from spending a few nights in Nashville. Coming from Salt Lake, the 3-4″ that fell and watching the reaction to it was amusing, but we made the most of things by binging American Primeval and ordering DoorDash from Roma *Side-Note Shoutout To Roma 1) For being open, 2) For stocking bottled water and Gatorade in addition to making good pizza, and 3) Mostly for being open … again. Extra love to Door Dasher David for going the distance around Hillsboro.
The snow had let up by Saturday so we got an early start, first stopping off at Carter Vintage, followed by brunch downstairs at Maiz before trekking over to the Country Music Hall Of Fame to see an exhibit featuring a friend of ours.
Next we made our way over to tour The Ryman. Being a music superfreak, this has been a bucketlist venue to catch a show in for most of my life. The self-guided tour itself was great, highlighted by a film about The Ryman’s history, brought to life with unexpected modern technology in The Soul of Nashville Theater. After which, we made our way into the auditorium itself where the bustling stage crew was prepping for the evening’s big show (which we’d be returning later for: Opry 100 At The Ryman )
… and what a show it was! Headlined by Lainey Wilson, the night’s bill was rounded out with legends Marty Stuart and Steve Earle, along with Ryman regulars, Old Crow Medicine Show and award-winning talents, Mark Wills and Drew Parker. For a change of pace, one of Nashville’s favorite funnymen, Henry Cho, delivered the laughs. The highlight of the evening came after the official radio show ended and the audience was treated to a surprise set from Wilson and Stuart. Together they performed the Hank Williams classic, Lost Highway, as well as Wilson’s first number one, Things A Man Ought To Know. The songs were being recorded for future promotional use so they took two passes each to ensure the best performances were captured. They were. 🙂
