Where Music Meets the Mountains: An Unforgettable Night with Better Than Ezra, Vertical Horizon and Tonic
Park City Performing Arts’ Concerts on the Slopes delivered much more than a concert—it created a complete mountain experience built around music, community and connection.
On Saturday, August 15, the Amphitheater at Canyons Village became the setting for a celebration of alternative rock as Better Than Ezra, Vertical Horizon and Tonic took the stage for one unforgettable evening.

For the fans gathered beneath the Wasatch Mountains, the concert offered a rare opportunity to hear three defining bands share one bill. Tonic brought its unmistakable combination of raw emotion and rock energy. Vertical Horizon followed with the melodic songwriting and familiar anthems that made the band a fixture of late-1990s and early-2000s radio. Better Than Ezra then capped the evening with the personality, musicianship and enduring catalog that have kept audiences coming back for more than three decades.
Songs associated with pivotal moments in people’s lives—including “If You Could Only See,” “Everything You Want” and “Good”—felt especially powerful when experienced collectively. It was the kind of night that allowed longtime fans to revisit the music they grew up with while introducing those songs to a new generation.
But the performances were only part of what made the evening memorable.
Creating an Experience Around the Performance
With cool mountain air, sweeping alpine views and the energy of Canyons Village surrounding the amphitheater, Concerts on the Slopes offered something an indoor venue simply cannot replicate.
Guests arrived early to explore the village, gather with friends and settle into an intimate outdoor environment before the first notes were played. As daylight faded behind the mountains and the stage lights became more prominent, the setting transformed naturally from a summer gathering into a full-scale concert experience.
That transformation reflects the vision of Ember Conley, Ed.D., Director of Fun at Park City Performing Arts, and her team.
“Concertgoers will enjoy more than just a show—it’s an experience,” Conley said.
That experience extends far beyond securing recognizable artists. Every element—from the lineup and venue to production, hospitality and audience accessibility—must come together to create an evening worthy of both the performers and the community.
The result was an event that felt substantial without losing the relaxed, communal character that makes outdoor music in Park City so distinctive.
The Work Behind an Effortless Evening
A successful concert should feel effortless to the audience. Producing one is anything but.
Behind the music was a coordinated effort involving artist representatives, production crews, venue personnel, volunteers, sponsors, vendors and community partners. Three established touring acts had to be moved through one stage while maintaining professional production standards and keeping the evening moving comfortably for the audience.
When all of those pieces work together, concertgoers rarely notice the complexity. They simply experience a well-paced night with strong sound, smooth transitions and an atmosphere that allows the music to remain the focus.
That is one of the clearest measures of a successfully produced live event: the operational work disappears, leaving only the experience.
Entertainment With a Larger Purpose
Park City Performing Arts is a nonprofit organization with a mission to enrich the community through innovative experiences that entertain, educate and illuminate.
Concerts on the Slopes helps bring that mission to life on a highly visible stage. The organization’s impact, however, continues well beyond its summer concert schedule.
Its programming supports student engagement with the performing arts throughout Summit County, creates artistic opportunities for older adults and helps make live entertainment more accessible to military personnel, veterans and members of the broader community.
That purpose adds another dimension to nights like this one. Purchasing a ticket is not simply an investment in a few hours of entertainment. It supports an organization working throughout the year to keep meaningful arts experiences within reach of the people it serves.
A Night That Demonstrated the Power of Place
The August 15 concert succeeded because the artists, venue and audience felt uniquely suited to one another.
Better Than Ezra, Vertical Horizon and Tonic supplied the music. Canyons Village provided a mountain setting capable of turning the concert into a destination experience. Park City Performing Arts brought the pieces together with a clear understanding that memorable events are built around more than what happens onstage.
“We’re creating experiences that bring people together for unforgettable nights under the stars,” Conley said.
They are also built around how people feel from the moment they arrive until the final song fades into the mountains.
For one summer night in Park City, everything came together—and the experience was “Oh so GOOD!”
